Robert Byrd Humphreys was first inspired to play drums back in 1994 when his older brother began playing the trombone. Beating on pots and pans lead to following in his brother’s footsteps and enrolling in the 6th grade elementary school band. After studying and completely surrounding himself with music throughout middle and high school, Rob found a much deeper, burning passion to play. Upon graduating high school, he left his small hometown of Roswell, NM to continue school and pursue music as a career. From there, Rob has been privileged to perform and record with artists such as Bobby Shew, Steve Houghton, Mike Tomaro, and Pat Rhoads. He has received awards as “Outstanding Soloist” during the New Mexico Solo and Ensemble Competition and “Most Outstanding Musician” in the Reno Jazz Festival. Currently residing in Los Angeles, California, Rob can be found playing throughout the west side on a regular basis in a variety of musical settings. He is constantly gaining inspiration from the people he meets, the humility he encounters, and the music he is exposed to.
